God has blessed us with such a wonderful turn-out in Madison today - we are overwhelmed!
People have come by the busload, by the van load and by the car load to show their opposition to SB 398, legislation to repeal Wisconsin’s historic abortion ban. Literally hundreds of people from all over the state (including many, many young people) have come to the capitol to show their love and respect for precious human life - and the excitement is electric!
We estimate that over 500 right-to-life people are here. Comparing our numbers to the contingent representing Planned Parenthood, (Wisconsin and the nation’s largest abortion provider), we are certainly in the majority. We have counted only 12 people representing the pro-abortion side.
This kind of grass-roots response is nothing short of history-making! When all of Wisconsin’s abortion clinics are finally closed, those participating here today and those participating through prayer from their homes will be able to say, “I helped make history.” Thank you all!
The big day has arrived with hundreds of people at the state capitol to testify at the public hearing on SB 398, legislation to repeal Wisconsin’s historic abortion ban. We will hear “right to choose” a thousand times today, because that is the only “argument” the proponents of abortion have.
Never mind that through that “choice,” 50 million unborn children have been destroyed by abortion in the United States in the past 35 years. Or that 48% of abortions are repeat abortions. Or that women are hurt by abortion. Or that 3,300 unborn children die from abortion each day in America. Or that abortion has failed to solve all social ills. Or that women are increasingly reporting they are coerced into having abortions through threats or intimidation. Or that men have no say in the destruction of their unborn children. Or that technology has proven beyond doubt that unborn children are living human beings from the moment of fertilization. Or that unborn children feel pain from an abortion.
Our side – the strong opponents of SB 398 — are prepared with a new “weapon” that will surprise Planned Parenthood and pro-abortion legislators. Youth. They have arrived in large numbers, eager to testify and display their pro-life convictions in an intense atmosphere for all to hear. The term “out of the mouths of babes” has new meaning today as young people take up the banner to protect human life at all stages of dependency.
Our big day is a new day for mothers and babies, one filled with hope and promise for the future.
Lost in the uproar of a public hearing on a bill (SB 398) to repeal Wisconsin’s abortion ban, is the vote in the Assembly on Thursday, February 28, on AB 710, a state partial-birth abortion ban. Although not as important as saving Wisconsin’s abortion ban, AB 710 represents another step forward in ensuring that Wisconsin will not tolerate the willful and brutal killing of unborn children.
In a partial-birth abortion, the abortionist turns the baby around in the womb and pulls the baby out feet first leaving only the baby’s head inside of the mother. The abortionist has to take great care not to deliver the whole baby. After all, what would he/she do with a fully live-born baby, especially when the mother has asked for a dead baby? The abortionist then stabs the baby at the base of the skull with a scissors, opens up the scissors to make a larger hole, inserts a suction catheter and sucks out the baby’s brains.
Partial-birth abortions are performed most often in the fifth month of pregnancy and up to the ninth month. Proponents of abortion rant and rave that a “health” exception is needed to the ban. Pure nonsense. Since a partial-birth abortion takes three days to complete, why would you wait that long to save a mother’s health or even her life? A “health” exception would give the abortionist full rein to perform any abortion he/she wants since health is defined so broadly as to include the mother’s age and feeling of well being.
Thanks to the federal Congress, our own Congressman James Sensenbrenner and President Bush, partial-birth abortion is no longer legal in our country. A state partial-birth abortion ban is needed to give local prosecutors the tools to prosecute violations of the ban. Congratulations and thanks to Speaker Mike Huebsch, Rep. Jim Ott, Rep. Tony Staskunas and the Wisconsin Assembly for moving AB 710 forward.
The tides are changing as the young slowly but surely take over the fight to protect unborn children and other vulnerable people. Participants in the annual January 22 March for Life in Washington, D.C. are now mostly young people.
Numbers of college and high school students and young adults are expected to attend the February 27 public hearing on SB 398 to oppose this legislation which would repeal Wisconsin’s historic abortion ban. (Note: the public hearing was changed from 10:00am to 12 Noon.) Some will testify against SB 398. For many, it will be their first foray into a politically-charged atmosphere. The hearing will expose them to the shallow arguments used by proponents of abortion to keep the killing of the unborn legal.
This powerful youth movement is very good news for right-to-life efforts. Savvy and wise beyond their years, young people understand what is at stake, having lost 1/3 of their generation already to abortion. The vulnerable are in good hands for many years into the future.
As expected, Senate leaders are moving ahead with SB 398, the bill which would repeal Wisconsin’s abortion ban. A public hearing is scheduled for February 27 at 10:00am in the state capitol.
This is it – our abortion ban is the most important thing we have to protect unborn children in Wisconsin. Remember, on the day the Roe is finally gone, Wisconsin will be one of the first states in the nation to shut down its abortion clinics. That is, as long as our abortion ban stays on the books.
Can you please come? This is the time to take vacation, bring cars full of people to the public hearing, do whatever you can. Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin are certain to bring in hundreds of people, especially the college students right there in Madison.

P.S. - As a historical reminder, this is how Wisconsin Right to Life got started 40 years ago. Pro-abortion people attempted to repeal or modify this very same abortion ban. They weren’t successful then – and cannot be successful now.
On January 31st, four young ladies from the West Bend area were in the state capitol for a public hearing on a bill in which they had interest. When they found out about the partial-birth abortion ban hearing, they stayed all day (hearing started at 10:00am, hearing on pba ban started at 3:30pm) so that they could be present for the hearing and testify. It was around 5:00pm when all four of them went up together to testify in favor of the ban. Three of them are 15 and the other 13. All are home-schooled. One was cuter than the next. Their main points were:
Planned Parenthood isn’t going to get us.
1/3 of our generation has been lost to abortion.
Our generation is going to end this holocaust.
I hovered between busting my buttons and crying! The legislators gushed all over them. They sounded as though they had been trained by our teen staff and leaders. With champions like these young girls, the babies are in good hands!
