Obama to Immediately Dismantle Pro-Life Policies

As expected, Obama’s transition team is moving to prepare new Executive Orders for President-Elect Obama to implement as soon as he takes office.

Expected to immediately get the axe are:

President Bush’s 2001 policy which prohibits the use of federal funds to destroy human embryos for embryonic stem cell research.

The Mexico City Policy which protects taxpayers from funding groups that perform or promote abortions in other countries.

So much for all of the ridiculous reports that Obama will “govern from the center” and that he really wants to “reduce the number of abortions.”

The Obama transition team is reportedly working with leading pro-abortion groups and legislators to give them “payback” for their assistance in getting him elected.

It’s going to be a rough ride for the right-to-life cause.  Tomorrow and for days and months afterward, I will be filling you in on the most dangerous initiative of all — the Freedom of Choice Act.

Right-to-Life Movement Not About to Roll Over

As the dust settles and we learn there is life beyond November 4,  I am buoyed by  the number of people who have taken the time to write to Wisconsin Right to Life with words of encouragement and strength.    Rather than despair, they look forward to the future with renewed courage and determination.

Some are recounting how they felt when Clinton was elected President in 1992.  It seemed like the end of the world, especially since the U.S. Supreme Court had reaffirmed Roe v. Wade earlier that year.   We had so much hope that the court shaped by Reagan and George H.W. Bush would overturn Roe, and that Bush would be elected to a second term.

Our immediate first task as Clinton took office was to educate the public on the Freedom of Choice Act — the same FOCA that is at issue today.  Wisconsin Right to Life organized a nationwide literature drop to explain the dangers of FOCA.  Times have changed, but the issue hasn’t.  And, we have enacted even more great laws that are saving human lives since 1992.  FOCA would wipe all of them out.    So, expect to hear more and more in this blog about FOCA, and roll up your sleeves to help us to spread the word.  We need you now more than ever.

In so many ways, this is a fight to the death, because death is the ultimate objective of that culture.   The culture of life must succeed, or we are all doomed.

A Sad Day for the Culture of Life

Today, there is great sadness due to yesterday’s election outcomes.  But, we at Wisconsin Right to Life will not allow more than one day of mourning as there is much work to do.

Here are the losses:

Barack Obama as the most pro-abortion president ever.

John Gard’s loss in the 8th Congressional District.

Extensive losses in the State Assembly which will now have pro-abortion leadership.

Loss of one right-to-life seat in the State Senate.

Legalization of assisted suicide in Washington State.

Defeat of right-to-life ballot measures in California, Michigan, South Dakota and Colorado.

What we face now is the real possibility that the new Congress will move quickly to enact the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA).   In the state legislature, new efforts are expected to repeal our abortion ban and, perhaps, legalize assisted suicide.  It is a formidable challenge.

The right-to-life movement survived eight years of President Clinton.  We will return to the gritty and tenacious work done in those years.   We will be up to the challenge.

State Legislature Up for Grabs– Contact 10 People Today

To learn the positions of candidates for state office in your local area, please click here.

Lost in the tremendous publicity generated by the presidential election is the fate of the Wisconsin legislature.    It is a real nail-biter.  It wasn’t that long ago that the anti-life leadership in the State Senate did the following:

1.  Pushed for a bill to repeal Wisconsin’s abortion ban.

2.  Had a public hearing on legislation to legalize assisted suicide.

3.  Passed Healthy Wisconsin which would force taxpayers to pay for every abortion.

While this may sound radical and unbelievable to us, all of these things could happen as a result of tomorrow’s elections.  Wisconsin Right to life led the fight to defeat all of the above measures with the assistance of many other Wisconsin groups and allies.

But, the shift of just two seats in the State Assembly could give that body an anti-life leadership team.   Those we defend will not survive the devastation of both houses of the legislature with anti-life leadership.

In 2006, many state races were lost by just a few hundred votes.  You can help tremendously by clicking the link above, learning what district you are in, and studying the candidates’ right-to-life positions.  Don’t forget the key race in the Green Bay/Appleton area where John Gard must defeat pro-abortion Steve Kagen.

Your work does not end there.  If everyone reading this blog would get information about local right-to-life candidates to 10 people today, thousands of voters will be impacted.   No excuses here — too many lives depend on your action.

On Wednesday, I will give you a rundown on what came down and the future of right-to-life efforts (or anti-life efforts) in our great state.
