Wisconsin Right to Life Decries Blatantly Unconstitutional “Disclose” Act

In yet another move to curtail free speech in America, the House of Representatives plans to vote on a measure, the “Disclose” Act (H.R. 5175), which is intended to make it extremely difficult for corporations, including groups like Wisconsin Right to Life, to freely participate in the election process.  The House bill carves out exceptions for labor unions and the National Rifle Association, making the measure especially insulting.

It is completely discriminatory for certain “favored” organizations to be allowed free speech while Wisconsin Right to Life, its chapters, its parent organization, and its colleagues in other states are restricted and even silenced.

Congress is attempting to put these new restrictions in place as soon as possible to blunt the impact of the January 2010 Citizens United U.S. Supreme Court decision which overturned previous speech restrictions enacted by the Congress.

Clearly, the provisions in the “Disclose” Act will ultimately be found unconstitutional.  The goal appears to be to mute the voices of citizen groups for the November elections and for as long as they can get away with it.

Wisconsin Right to Life has been at the forefront of efforts to preserve the First Amendment right to free speech.    In 2007, Wisconsin Right to Life was victorious in the U.S. Supreme Court in a challenge to the McCain/Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act.   The WRTL victory opened the door to positive legal and constitutional decisions in other cases like Citizens United as instrumental in restoring the ability to speak freely about issues and candidates, a principle that is at the core of our freedoms as Americans.

Dutton Leaves Planned Parenthood, Late-Term Abortion Plan

Caryn Dutton (I refuse to call her a doctor) lasted only 1 1/2 years as Planned Parenthood’s Madison abortion clinic abortionist.  Dutton is also one of the architects of the late-term abortion plan hatched and abandoned at the Madison Surgery Center and the individual who was slated to perform those abortions.   Harvard has beckoned and Dutton will follow.   Our gain, their loss.

UW continues to put on a bold face, stating that plans have not changed to do late-term abortions but a new person will be found to do them.   Perhaps.   The late-term abortion plan was approved 16 months ago.    UW has been damaged through its involvement in this scheme.  No facility is clamoring to take up the banner of late-term abortions to help save Madison’s reputation.  Perhaps.

Kagan’s Views Revealed as Anti-Life Across the Board

U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan holds the obvious position in favor of legal abortion, given that she was nominated by an ardently pro-abortion President Obama.    As a policy advisor to President Clinton, Kagan was heavily involved in helping Clinton justify his vetoes of  bans on partial-birth abortions.  But Kagan’s anti-life views  go well beyond the abortion issue.

Newly-released documents indicate Kagan wrote that it was “fairly terrible idea” for Congress to make assisted suicide a federal crime.   And documents from the Clinton library reveal the role Kagan played in shaping policy on human cloning.  Researched by Americans United for Life, these documents show Kagan advocating for a policy which would allow the creation of cloned human embryos for research purposes — the so-called “clone and kill” position which would allow scientists to create cloned embryos and kill them for research purposes but prohibit allowing them to develop to term.

Kagan is becoming the right-to-life movement’s worst nightmare.

Risking Women’s Health Through “Telemed” Abortions

Planned Parenthood will stop at nothing to expand abortions and make money.    It’s newest scheme, hatched in Iowa, involves a Planned Parenthood abortionist located in Des Moines visiting with an abortion patient via videoconferencing to discuss the abortion.  The abortionist then presses a computer button which opens a drawer in front of the patient who could be at a clinic hundreds of miles away.  Inside the drawer are abortion pills — RU 486 and misoprostol.  RU 486 shuts down a baby’s life support system, causing the tiny baby to shrivel and die.  Misoprostol acts to eject the baby from the mother’s body.

According to an article in the Des Moines Register, over 1,500 Iowa women have used this videoconference system, called “telemed abortions,” to obtain deadly and powerful abortion drugs.   Planned Parenthood insists that this procedure (or lack thereof) is safe for women and “efficient” and that the law is being followed.   Women are being monitored, says PP, because the woman is watched via a secure communications system as she takes the RU 486.   She takes the second drug at home.  Women then come back to the videoconferencing set-up in two weeks as a follow-up.   Bottom line:  the woman does not see or is not examined in person by a doctor.

Before they leave the first video conference, women are shown a “put on a happy face” video.  “Well, you’re no longer pregnant,” an actor in a white coat tells a woman portraying a patient.  “That’s great,” the woman says.  “ I really would like a baby sometime.  But right now, we just can’t afford it.  I’m really glad we had this choice.”

In late May, PP President Cecile Richards announced at a dinner in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that Planned Parenthood plans to go nationwide with the Iowa experiment.    Anything to expand abortion and make a buck.

Lila Rose Wows the Crowd in Appleton

Last week, nationally-known  student activist Lila Rose spoke at a Wisconsin Right to Life event at the Butte Des Morts Country Club in Appleton.   This young right-to-life dynamo showed the crowd just why she and her organization “Live Action” is receiving mega-kudos  from throughout that nation.

Lila has dedicated herself to building a culture of life and founded “Live Action,” a student-led  organization that uses “new media” to educate and mobilize both local and national audiences, to demand accountability from the abortion industry and human rights for the unborn.  In 2007, Lila carried out her first undercover investigation - an expose of pro-abortion counseling at the UCLA (where Lila is a student)  health center and institutional support for abortion for pregnant students.

Since then, Lila has led numerous other undercover stings through “Live Action” exposing corruption and illegal activity within Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.  Her work has prompted officials in several states to take action against Planned Parenthood.

Here in Wisconsin, Lila’s  investigative work brought her to the Planned Parenthood clinics in Milwaukee and Appleton.   The videos from these particular undercover stings revealed the shocking (but not surprising) manipulation of pregnant girls  in those clinics.  In the Milwaukee PP Clinic , a girl who was 6-8 weeks pregnant asked “What comes out?”  She was told it was “just an embryo” - “not a baby.”  In Appleton, a girl was told that her baby’s heartbeat was “a cardiac activity but it is not a beat on its own.”

But there’s so much more and you’ve GOT to see it for yourself!   Go to the “Live Action” website at http://liveaction.org

No question about it - “Live Action” and Lila Rose are doing incredible and invaluable work for the right-to-life cause!

Desperately Trying to Sell Obamacare

The poll numbers in favor of repealing Obamacare are staggering.  Rasmussen’s June 7 numbers show 58% in favor of repeal with 48% strongly favoring.    Only 35% are against repeal.   Rasmussen only surveys likely voters, making these numbers very significant for the 2010 elections.

What’s a Democrat to do in the face of such overwhelming unpopularity?   Spend more money.   Democrats have launched a $125 million campaign to “sell” Obamacare to a stubborn and recalcitrant public.   Named as co-chairs of this effort are former U.S. Senator Tom Daschle and the late Senator Edward Kennedy’s wife, Victoria.    President Obama will play an integral part as he is slated to make numerous appearances,  participate in tele-town hall meetings, and use other means to try to convince Americans that Obamacare really isn’t so bad.

Funds are being raised for the Health Information Center from unions, corporations and foundations.

In response to the $125 million campaign, some states are turning to ballot measures to excoriate Obamacare and energize voters for November.    It is an interesting game that might be fun to watch if the stakes weren’t so high.    Lives hang in the balance as the impact of Obamacare hits.   And, it is not good news for unborn babies and older Americans.

Connecticut Court Dismisses Assisted Suicide Lawsuit

Compassion and Choices (C & C), the nation’s leading proponent of euthanasia, lost in its bid to have a Connecticut trial court overturn Connecticut’s law which prohibits assisted suicide. What C & C was trying to accomplish in this suit was to redefine what constitutes assisted suicide by giving it a new legal name, “aid in dying.” The court rejected this argument, ruling that the legislature clearly intended to prohibit physician-assisted suicide when it was made a criminal act.
Bottom line: C & C’s commonly-used rhetoric that “aid in dying” is not really “assisted suicide” fell by the wayside. C & C is considering an appeal of the decision.

Euthanasia advocates are now 0 for 3 in 2010 with massive losses in the New Hampshire and Canadian legislatures and now in a Connecticut court. It has been an incredibly good year for the lives of those who would be victimized by assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Can Ron Johnson Finally Send Russ Feingold Packing?

A virtually unheard of Wisconsin candidate named Ron Johnson is just two points shy of Russ Feingold in a late May Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters.   Feingold leads Johnson by a mere 46% - 44%  with 3% preferring another candidate and 6% undecided.

This can’t be good news for Feingold.  But, does it spell victory for Johnson?

This same poll reveals that 56% of Wisconsin voters favor repealing Obamacare with 45% strongly favoring repeal.    Again, not an enviable position for Feingold given his support of Obamacare.

The key for Johnson is to exploit Feingold’s record on Obamacare and things like partial-birth abortion without making any major campaign mistakes.   It is a long way until November.   But Feingold’s opponents, including we at Wisconsin Right to Life, are salivating over the prospects of a Senator Johnson from Wisconsin.

One of the Many Reasons Tom Barrett Would be a Disaster as Governor

For a host of right-to-life reasons,  Tom Barrett would be an unmitigated disaster as Governor.  But for now, let’s just consider this.  Barrett doesn’t trust the parents of Wisconsin!

  • In Congress, Barrett voted to allow a stranger to take YOUR minor daughter across state lines to have an abortion and keep you in the dark.
  • While in the state legislature, Barrett voted to allow members of your family to consent to YOUR minor daughter’s abortion. Imagine how you’d feel if you found out that someone IN YOUR OWN FAMILY did this behind your back!

So, Tom Barrett doesn’t trust the parents of Wisconsin and now he wants to be YOUR Governor   Hope you’ll remember this when you vote in November!

Obey’s Retirement Opens Door For Major Change on Life Issues

In a stunning move, long-time Congressman David Obey announced he is not seeking re-election.  Obey was already being strongly challenged by Sean Duffy who is campaigning on right-to-life issues and has been endorsed by the Wisconsin Right to Life PAC.

Duffy’s right-to-life positions include:

  • Sean Duffy opposes legal abortion on demand.
  • Sean Duffy OPPOSES USING YOUR TAX DOLLARS for ABORTIONS here and in other countries.
  • Sean Duffy SUPPORTS informing YOU if your MINOR DAUGHTER is seeking an ABORTION.
  • Sean Duffy supports ETHICAL STEM CELL RESEARCH and opposes destroying living human embryos and human cloning.

PRO - ABORTION STATE SENATOR JULIE LASSA  is running against Duffy in November.  Lassa has compiled a strong pro-abortion voting record in the state legislature that includes:

  • Julie Lassa opposed legislation to provide conscience protection for medical professionals.
  • Julie Lassa opposed strengthening parental consent before a minor girl’s abortion.
  • Julie Lassa opposed informing a woman seeking an abortion after 20 weeks that her child will feel pain.
  • Julie Lassa opposed a ban on human cloning.

Such a contrast between  these two candidates!  Stay tuned for much more information on this race and other races throughout Wisconsin.
