It sounds too good to be true. According to the Appleton Post-Crescent, the national Democratic campaign committee is scaling back funds once committed to the Wisconsin 8th Congressional District. This is a clear indication that Kagen’s re-election chances are diminishing and they want to spend their money elsewhere.
Good news for candidate Reid Ribble who is waging an aggressive campaign! Great news for the cause of life.
In 2010, we sadly recognize the ten year anniversary of approval of the two-drug chemical abortion procedure by the FDA. The dangerous RU 486 drug was approved in 2000 despite huge opposition. As an aside, then Congressman Tom Barrett voted in favor of FDA approval of chemical abortions.
That fatal decision has come home to roost in Wisconsin. In 2009, Wisconsin abortions increased for the first time since 2003. Chemical RU 486 abortions increased from 19% of all abortions in 2008 to 27% of all abortions in 2009. African-American abortions also increased, an ethnic group that has abortions vastly disproportionate to its population numbers. It appears that the economy has claimed even more victims.
Overall, abortions increased from 8,229 in 2008 to 8,542 in 2009. Still a low number compared to neighboring states, but not acceptable.
President Obama awakened a sleeping giant with his taxpayer funding of abortion and Obamacare agendas. Both are deeply unpopular with the American public. Taxpayer funding of abortion has been a relatively dormant issues for decades, since Congress decided over 30 years ago that taxpayers should not have to underwrite abortions. Obamacare not only contains taxpayer funding of abortion, but has a rationing element as well. And, issues such as taxpayer funding of abortions at military base hospitals (which fortunately failed in the U.S. Senate last week) essentially turn back the clock.
Unwittingly, Obama has handed his opponents two very potent issues, intertwined as they are. The House Republican leadership has seized the moment with the Pledge to America. WRTL commends them for the document which calls for repeal and replacement of Obamacare and a permanent ban on federal taxpayer dollars for abortion throughout government programs. We are grateful to the commitment to life found in this document.
Despite failure to break a filibuster on the DISCLOSE Act in July, Reid and company plan to bring up the measure again tomorrow in what appears as a desperate attempt to protect Democratic incumbents. The bill, S. 3628, has provisions which favor groups close to the Democratic party while silencing others like Wisconsin Right to Life.
Douglas Johnson, Legislative Director of National Right to Life, believes Reid will fail again. “It appears that the White House, and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, are going to make one more desperate attempt to prevent citizen groups from disseminating messages to the public that might contain unflattering information about the Administration, the congressional Democratic leadership, and the legislation they have been pushing,” says Johnson. ” We believe this attempt will again fail.”
Reid’s strategy, as it was in July, is to find at least one Republican who will help break the filibuster. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that Republicans will hold firm and not break ranks.
Senators John McCain and Mitch McConnell are working hard to block a vote on the Defense Authorization Bill because, among other things, it contains a provision that would allow the performance of abortions at military hospitals. The provision, authored by Senator Roland Burris of Illinois, would allow abortions at hospitals both here in the USA and on military bases overseas.
LifeNews.com reports that “in August, more than 200 physicians who have served U.S. soldiers have signed a letter to members of the Senate protesting the Burris amendment.” If this provision becomes law, it will place military medical professionals in the position of having to exercise conscience rights to not participate.
Senator Reid will ask for a vote to invoke cloture to allow a vote on the bill. Don’t expect any help for our side from either Feingold or Kohl.
Tom Barrett has his train on the track, is revving up the engine, and wants to steamroller into Madison and the Governor’s mansion. You need to help us stop the train. Watch for and participate in the Wisconsin Right to Life money bomb from October 5-14. We need to raise funds to reach 150,000+ voters and tell them about Barrett’s appalling right-to-life voting record. Help stop the train!
Oregon legalized assisted suicide in 1997. Now, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) says it is alarmed that the Oregon suicide rate is “…35 percent higher than the national average. The rate is 15.2 suicides per 100,000 people compared to the national rate of 11.3 per 100,000.” Author Wesley Smith points out that even these numbers are false because they do not include assisted suicide cases.
Who would have thought that legalizing and promoting assisted suicide would lead to a higher suicide rate? Duh. In another touch of irony, the OHA suggests that people remove guns from their homes so prevent suicide. How about removing the suicide pills that Oregon law allows?
As reported last week by Fox News, two former Planned Parenthood employees are alleging that PP fraudulently overbilled federal and state governments. When whistleblower and former Chief Financial Officer for PP of Los Angeles, P. Victor Gonzalez, reported the problem to PP officials, he said he was fired. Gonzalez said audits uncovered more than $5.2 million in overbilling just in San Diego.
According to Fox News, “…in one year Gonzalez says PPLA paid $225,695.65 for….birth control pills, yet billed the government $918,084 - for a profit of $692,388.35.”
But, it gets worse. Gonzalez says that PP lobbyists got the state legislature to agree to stop the audits. PP’s response: “the California State legislature passed a law in 2004 making it clear that the billing practices at issue in the case are completely permissible.” The law apparently allows PP to bill at inflated rates. Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson who authored the law says she was persuaded to move forward because she was told PP “could not survive absent the mark up for reimbursement, and she considered the issue one of ‘access.’”
The attorney representing Gonzalez, Walter Weber, is a long-time friend of Wisconsin Right to Life. Weber believes the overbilling issues “are so wide-spread that they are akin to ‘ACORN-like corruption’.
For 2008, PP Federation of America and its affiliates received $349.6 million in grants and contracts from the federal government. A staggering sum using taxpayer dollars given to America’s largest abortion provider. It is disgusting.
This story is almost too creepy to report. Just when you think the horror of abortion cannot become more horrible, another gruesome story pops up. According to the National Catholic Register, two Maryland abortionists had their deadly practice discontinued after a woman was severely injured during her abortion. When authorities raided the clinic searching for medical records, “they discovered dozens of unborn babies stored in a freezer.”
The writer recalled a similar story just a few months ago in Philadelphia where authorities who raided a local abortion clinic to investigate injury to a woman reported: “There was blood on the floor, and parts of aborted fetuses were displayed in jars.”
LifeNews.com reports that in the Maryland raid, 35 bodies of late-term aborted babies were found in jars. In Philadelphia, dozens of late-term babies killed by abortion had been stored in jars “as long as 30 years ago.”
Will this nightmare ever end? It will, but only if good people are aware of the human rights abuse that is abortion and vow to do something about it. Joining Wisconsin Right to Life is a very good start.
Just like Governor Doyle, Tom Barrett is deep in the tank with the pro-abortion lobby. Barrett is probably Planned Parenthood’s favorite candidate and they really want him to continue Doyle’s pro-abortion work as Governor. WRTL is pulling out all of the stops to deflate Barrett’s “nice guy” image and expose him for the pro-abortion extremist he is. Step one is a video which needs to go viral. Please help spread the video and the word.
