Why Abortion Proponents Hate Ultrasound

Abortion proponents have become almost apoplectic about ultrasounds. Why? Because these beautiful and wondrous pictures of babies in the womb have destroyed the empty rhetoric employed by abortion proponents for decades. That really isn’t a baby. Just a clump of cells. A product of conception. Rarely do you hear these descriptions any longer because they are so easily refuted by technology which is easily available to all pregnant women.

What abortion proponents hate most are laws passed in a number of states which require that a woman seeking abortion view an ultrasound of her own child . When such a law was proposed in Virginia, the hysteria created by proponents and dutifully promoted by a compliant media was full-throated and visious. They claimed that a transvaginal ultrasound was tantamount to “rape by instrument.” Even though the proposed law did not require a specific type of ultrasound, it didn’t stop the pro-abortion crowd from inaccurately claiming it did. So, the bill was “modified” to require an abdominal ultrasound. The new Virginia law went into effect several days ago.

Here are some facts that abortion proponents conveniently left out. A transvaginal ultrasound is already standard operating procedure prior to an early RU 486 abortion in virtually all abortion clinics — and they know it. The reason an internal probe is used is that it gives a clearer picture of the baby and looks for dangerous conditions for the woman like an ectopic pregnancy. It also allows a more accurate calculation of the gestational age of the baby. But, don’t let the truth get in the way of creating a continued “war on women.”

In South Carolina, right-to-lifers turned the table on this ridiculous argument. If transvaginal ultrasound is “rape by instrument,” then an abortion itself is “rape by instrument and homicide.” As abortion proponents engage in hysteria and outright distortions, we must continue to expose their ugly lies and fight for women and children.
