Paul Ryan on the Sanctity of Life
We know firsthand how fervently Paul Ryan believes in the sanctity of human life. It is at the center and core of his being. And what he believes is how he votes. Now that he is the official Vice-Presidential candidate, Ryan is under fierce attack by his opponents. Ryan is “extreme,” they intone. Ryan does not like women. Ryan embodies what the “war on women” is all about. Yada, yada. So inflammatory, and so off the mark.
How did Ryan handle these ridiculous attacks in his acceptance speech? Beautifully, we think. Here is what he said:
“Our different faiths come together in the same moral creed. We believe that in every life there is goodness; for every person, there is hope. Each one of us was made for a reason, bearing the image and likeness of the Lord of Life.
“We have responsibilities, one to another— we do not each face the world alone. And the greatest of all responsibilities, is that of the strong to protect the weak. The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.
“Each of these great moral ideas is essential to democratic government— to the rule of law, to life in a humane and decent society. They are the moral creed of our country, as powerful in our time, as on the day of America’s founding. They are self-evident and unchanging, and sometimes, even presidents need reminding, that our rights come from nature and God, not from government.”
Yes, simply beautiful.

Tidbits from the Pro-Abortion Democratic National Convention
It is so painful to watch — speaker after speaker at the Democratic National Convention kneeling at the altar of what Steven Ertelt of LifeNews.com deems “abortion worship.” In some respects, it is truly a blast from the past. Apparently, the speakers and delegates have not assimilated the research studies which show that young people are overwhelmingly pro-life. The recent Gallup poll in which 50% of Americans self-describe as pro-life and 41% as pro-choice. Numbers of polls which indicate that Americans are not in favor of wide-open abortion on demand, taxpayer funding of abortion, no parental involvement, sex-selective abortions, partial-birth abortions, late-term abortions, etc. Undaunted, the party and its major convention speakers fully embrace abortion on demand with no restrictions, in word and by platform.
Here are some samples (Note how the speakers do not use the word abortion and instead speak in code using euphanisms):
Michelle Obama: “And he believes that women are more than capable of making our own choices about our bodies and our health care. That’s what my husband stands for.”
Nancy Keenan: “Put simply, women in America cannot trust Mitt Romney. We cannot trust Mitt Romney to protect our health . Mitt Romney would take away our power to make decision about our lives and our futures.” (Keenan is President of NARAL Pro-Choice America)
Governor Deval Patrick: “We believe that freedom means keeping government out of our most private affairs, including out of a woman’s decision whether to keep an unwanted pregnancy.”
Democratic Party Platform: “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right…..”
Other interesting tidbits:
Planned Parenthood had its rally and only a handful of people attended.
Rep. Bart Stupak, the pro-life Democrat who betrayed his long-held pro-life values by giving President Obama the necessary votes to pass ObamaCare, admitted during a panel discussion at the convention that he now believes the President has violated the phony Executive Order Stupak negotiated which was supposed to prevent abortion funding. Referring to the horrendous HHS mandate which denies religious freedom, Stupak said “I am perplexed and disappointed that, having negotiated the Executive Order with the President, not only does the HHS mandate violate the Executive Order but it also violates statutory law.”
And, as the writer of a Townhall.com article so aptly observed, President Obama's nod to abortion in his acceptance speech again demonstrated his willingness to embrace abortion as a centerpiece of his campaign. The president's promotion of abortion as a part of his re-election effort is unprecedented in United States politics and comes at a time when recent polls have shown Americans who identify themselves as pro-life have reached majority status.

Bravo Cardinal Dolan; Obama, Biden Predictable on Abortion
Bravo Cardinal Dolan!!
At first rebuked, Dolan was eventually invited to close the Democratic National Convention in prayer. Convention planners must have been wincing as Dolan boldly proclaimed the issues of life and religious liberty. Here are some excerpts:
“Thus do we praise you for the gift of life. Grant us the courage to defend it, life, without which no other rights are secure. We ask your benediction on those waiting to be born, that they may be welcomed and protected.”
“Renew in all our people a profound respect for religious liberty: the first, most cherished freedom bequeathed upon us at our Founding.”
President Obama and Vice President Biden obediently followed the talking points on “reproductive rights.” Obama said that “…change will not happen….the people….who are trying to buy this election and those who are making it harder for you to vote… who want to control health care choices that women should make for themselves.” Biden chimed in with the vision of “…a future where women control their own choices, health, and destiny.”
Rounding out the litany for “health” were Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and college student Sandra Fluke. All in all, a tragic and appalling commentary from a party whose leadership is dedicated to denying the most basic right of all — the right-to-life.

Powerful TV Ad Featuring our Friend, Meliss Ohden
The Susan B. Anthony List ran this powerful right-to-life television ad in Charlotte, N.C. (site of the DNC Convention) during President Obama's speech. SBA List previously ran the ad extensively in Missouri and plans to air it in other states in the coming weeks. The ad features abortion survivor Melissa Ohden and dramatically exposes Obama's radical abortion views to the voters. Melissa is a dear friend of Wisconsin Right to Life and has participated in many of our events.
