Annette Ziegler Endorsed for State Supreme Court

Vote Tuesday, April 3
Judge Annette Ziegler has been endorsed by the Wisconsin Right to Life Political Action Committee in an open seat to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Jon Wilcox. Ziegler has also received endorsements from the majority of Wisconsin’s sheriffs and district attorneys as well as from three former State Supreme Court Justices.

Ziegler will face Attorney Linda Clifford in the April 3 general election. Clifford has been endorsed by Senator Russ Feingold, labor organizations and two former State Supreme Court Justices.

“Judge Ziegler is firmly committed to interpreting laws and leaving the creation of laws to the state legislature,” stated Bonnie Pfaff, Wisconsin Right to Life PAC chair. “She also brings a variety and wealth of legal experience to this important post.”

Judge Ziegler is the senior judge in Washington County, serving as a Circuit Court Judge for 10 years. She was first appointed by Governor Tommy Thompson and has been elected twice. Prior experience includes work in a private law firm, as a county prosecutor and in the U. S. Attorney’s office.

Authorized and paid for by the Wisconsin Right to Life PAC, Richard Fox, Treas. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.

Forced Abortions Must be Stopped in Wisconsin

At its February 6 Legislative Conference with 300 in attendance, Wisconsin Right to Life unveiled proposed legislation aimed at stopping coerced abortions. Research collected after decades of legalized abortion reveals that, in many cases, choosing to abort a baby is not what a woman really wants. The Coercive Abortion Prevention Act will act as a deterrent to coerced abortion.

Abortion may be legal but coercion is not. The new law would require abortion providers to tell women that they cannot be coerced into an abortion. The Coercive Abortion Prevention Act is authored by Sen. Roger Breske (D-Eland) and Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin).

Your Help is Needed to Save Wisconsin’s Law Protecting Unborn Children

As reported earlier, the biggest abortion battle in years will be efforts by Planned Parenthood and its allies to repeal Wisconsin’s law that would protect unborn children if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

This law has been on Wisconsin’s law books for decades but is unenforceable because of Roe. Wisconsin is in a unique position of being one of only four states that still have their pre-Roe abortion laws on the books. Wisconsin’s law has no legal impediments that would prevent it from going into effect immediately if Roe is overturned. With your help, Wisconsin Right to Life is prepared to do everything possible to maintain this life-protecting law.

You can help protect our existing law by signing the online petition at our website.

What a Difference a Baby Makes

Jeff Wenzler Forms New Group:
Wisconsin Right-to-Life NextGen

Snuggled in his mother’s arms, three-day-old Jonah Duffy Wenzler is the epitome of health. Dark hair, olive complexion, rosy red lips, button nose, dressed in a white and blue sleeper, he’s picture perfect.

His parents, Jeff and Jennifer Wenzler, couldn’t be happier with this new addition to their family which also includes two-year-old Cecilia.

Yet, had the Wenzlers heeded the advice of a doctor Jeff encountered, they would not be celebrating the Jan. 30 birth of Jonah.

Jeff received a shock after a doctor he visited, in a work-related context, suggested that halting Jennifer’s pregnancy would spare them from the birth of a disabled child. Using his developmentally disabled brother as an example, the doctor stressed that a non-perfect child would change their lives significantly. He recommended the termination, since chances were high that the baby would be born early, if at all, and likely with birth defects.

Jeff had shared Jennifer’s medical situation with the doctor after she had suffered what she thought was a miscarriage but was actually a sub-chronic hematoma – an ever-increasing hemorrhage or tear between the uterus and sac that housed Jonah. While they spoke, a young mother strolled by with an obviously disabled child and the doctor used them as another example to emphasize his point that a life less than perfect was a burden for others.

“I walked out of there that day in shock. I had lost my hope and faith in the medical profession,” he said. When Jonah turned the corner…and was about 26 weeks along, a milestone where he could likely survive on his own…Jeff said he finally allowed himself to feel the excitement of Jonah’s birth.

Jeff also found an outlet for his new-found passion for the right-to-life movement. He had sent his reflection to Barbara Lyons, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life. With her help, Jeff and a few friends have formed a group called Wisconsin Right to Life Next Gen. Through his parents, Jeff was familiar with Wisconsin Right to Life. However, he always noted an absence in the local pro-life movement of the 25-40-year-old crowd.

“It’s important for those in our age group to know the issues better, to be able to discuss them with our peers, and to be part of saving human lives from abortion,” he wrote in an email inviting his peers to an introductory meeting.

“We are the next generation, the ones who will carry the torch for the pro-life movement,” he added. For more information, please contact Wisconsin Right to Life toll free, 877 855-5007, or send email to Jeff Wenzler at: jeffwenzler@sbcglobal.net.

Fathers No Longer Overlooked

Wisconsin Right to Life’s Veritas Society Funds Internet Information for Males
Who influences a young woman about what to do when she learns she is pregnant? It is primarily her boyfriend and her family.

The child’s father has his own emotions and future to deal with upon learning that his girlfriend is pregnant. While there is abundant information available for young women, the father is most often overlooked – but no longer.

Equipped with the knowledge that young men turn to the Internet for information, the Veritas Society used your funds to add an entire “guys” section to the www.teenbreaks.com pro-life website. The following young men tell you in their own words why this new resource is so vital:

Bob (age 17): “I was just wondering why your site’s contents refer mostly to girls. I’m a 17-year-old male who has just found out that I’m going to be a father. As scary as it is, I want to be there through the whole thing, and I’m trying to find info on what I can do to help her and what I can do to be ready.”

Charles (age 20-23): “On December 28, 2005, my unborn child will be taken from me… I already have all of these feelings of guilt, hatred, and agony….The mother wouldn’t give me a reason…There will never be a day that goes by that I will not think of my baby girl or boy and not a night that I won’t lie in bed and cry…”

The new resource addresses male concerns about abortion, fetal development, pregnancy, prenatal care and parenting. Offering reassurance and information to a teen father will ultimately also assist the mother and unborn child.

By helping a young man understand what is happening when he learns he is the father of an unborn child, more abortions can be prevented. This impact will be felt nationwide as well as in Wisconsin because teenbreaks.com is a national information source.

Wisconsin Right to Life and the Veritas Society give heartfelt thanks to you for making this resource possible.

President Bush Stands Firmly Opposed to
Funding Destruction of Living Human Embryos

Governor Doyle Pushes for Additional Funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Under new leadership, Congress is fast-tracking legislation that would provide federal funding for the destruction of living human embryos. In 2001, President Bush established a policy which would allow federal funds to be used for research on stem cell lines already created. The policy does not allow funding for the destruction of new embryos.

In the last congressional session, legislation to overturn President Bush’s policy was passed and then vetoed by the President. He is prepared to veto that same measure again this year. It is possible that the Senate has enough votes to override the veto.

The House is expected to sustain the veto. At the state level, Governor Doyle continues to pour millions of dollars into life-destroying embryonic stem cell research that has had no human treatment successes or even attempts to date. In contrast, Governor Doyle has invested NO funds in ethical adult stem cell research which is providing real treatments for real people.
