Assembly Democratic Leadership
Kills
Amendment to
Stop Late-Term Abortion Plan
All Assembly Republicans, Two Democrats and
One Independent Fight to Save Babies
On Saturday, June 13th, the Assembly Democratic leadership
used a procedural maneuver to kill an amendment to the state
budget to stop late-term abortions at the Madison Surgery
Center and other UW health facilities.
The amendment was authored by Rep. Dan LeMahieu (ROostburg)
and strongly supported by Wisconsin Right to Life.
The Democratic leadership’s maneuver to kill the LeMahieu
amendment succeeded by only one vote.
Wisconsin Right to Life praises all Assembly Republicans as
well as Democratic Representatives Peggy Krusick (D-Milwaukee)
and Bob Ziegelbauer (D-Manitowoc) and Independent
Jeff Wood (I-Bloomer) for voting to save the lives of babies at
the Madison Surgery Center.3333

save the amendment by calling toll free 1-800-362-9472.
A Different Story in the State Senate...
Senators Cave Without Even Trying
State Senators passed on the opportunity to vote on a
budget amendment to stop late-term abortions at the
Madison Surgery Center. Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West
Bend) was in the process of drafting an amendment but senators
from both parties did not want to vote on it. Wisconsin
Right to Life urges you to contact your State Senator, Republican
or Democrat, and ask why there was no vote on an
amendment to stop late-term abortions. Call them toll free at

Three Wisconsin Right to Life 1/2-page ads in the
Wisconsin State Journal exposed shocking information
contained in internal emails between various
UW officials regarding the late-term abortion plan at the
Madison Surgery Center. The ads also called
on residents and medical professionals to
take a stand against the plan. At

Obama Administration Working to Get FOCA Passed...
Piece by Piece
Will the so-called “Freedom
of Choice Act” (FOCA) be
introduced this year? Are the
Obama Administration and
the pro-abortion Democratic
congressional leadership
working right now to enact
portions of FOCA? The
likely answer to both of those
questions is YES!
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) announced that he would be
introducing FOCA in the U.S. House “sooner rather than
later.” In the meantime, the pro-abortion Democratic
leadership in Congress is working hard and fast to enact
portions of FOCA into law in two important areas:
- Health care is on a fast track to be enacted this summer.
Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National
Right to Life Committee, outlined why right-to-life
citizens should be gravely concerned. “The pro-abortion
movement sees federal ‘health care reform’ legislation
as a golden opportunity to force-feed abortion
into every nook and cranny of the health-care delivery
system. They hope to use the structure of a federal
health-care law to make abortion-on-demand accessible
in every region of every state, paid for by taxes and by
government-mandated private insurance premiums,” he
said.
- Congress may dismantle 20 right-to-life provisions inserted
into appropriations bills each year. These provisions
have protected our tax dollars from being used to
pay for abortions. The most well-known provision facing
possible elimination is the Hyde Amendment which
prohibits federal tax dollars from being used to perform
abortions. Pro-abortion congressional leaders also have
in their sights repeal of the Dornan Amendment which
has prevented tax-funded abortion in the District of
Columbia. We can expect more of these life-saving
provisions to be under attack in the near future.

Barack Obama is known as the most pro-abortion president in our nation’s
history for very good reason. Since he took the oath of office in January,
Obama has amassed a list of anti-life actions that is nothing short of mindboggling,
not to mention frightening. The National Right to Life Committee
News has all of the details. Check it out at

Polls Indicate We are Winning the Culture of Life War
For the first time, more Americans self-identify as Pro-Life
Numerous national polling firms asked abortion/life questions in May
of 2009 and got encouraging responses from the pro-life viewpoint.
Here are some samples:
- A widely reported Gallup poll found 51% of Americans now call themselves
pro-life compared to 44% the previous year. Conversely, 42% now call themselves
pro-choice compared to 50% the previous year. Only 33% called themselves
pro-life in 1995.
Rasmussen, Fox News and Pew Research polls also registered this strong shift
to a pro-life position. The Pew Research survey found that most of the movement
to the pro-life position was among young people, ages 18-29, known as
the millenials.
- A survey of Latinos conducted by a Latino social networking website found that 47% believe abortion should not be
legal compared to 38% who want abortion legal.
- A CNN poll found that Americans oppose President Obama’s pro-abortion record by a 2-1 margin. Of the 41% of Americans
who are interested in the abortion issue, 65.8% oppose Obama’s pro-abortion views while 34.1% support them.
- The May Gallup poll also found support for cloning and embryonic stem cell research dropping.
- The Polling Company found that Americans don’t want Obama to appoint a pro-abortion
activist judge to the U.S. Supreme Court. A judicial candidate who supports late-term or
partial-birth abortions is opposed by 82%. A judicial candidate who supports the
Freedom of Choice Act is opposed by 75%.
These trends are good news for the future and should be used to continue to raise awareness and support.
Obama may be president, but he and his pro-abortion allies appear to be losing the culture war on life.

Sotomayor and the U.S. Supreme Court
U.S. Supreme Court candidate Sonia Sotomayor appears to be solidly
pro-abortion. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Ron Wyden (DOR)
reported after their interviews with Sotomayor that they are
confident of her support for Roe v. Wade which legalized abortion-ondemand
in all 50 states.
Questions are certain to be asked at Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings
and her answers may provide additional and more comprehensive
information. However, if confirmed it appears that Sotomayor will
provide as reliable a vote to keep abortion legal as did Justice David
Souter, the man she would replace.
