Vote Expected After Labor Day

Health Care Reform Bills Will Greatly Expand And Fund Abortion!

The U.S. House and Senate are expected to vote after Labor Day on health care reform bills that, in their current form, would produce the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade. All versions of health care reform bills all have these things in common:

  • Include abortion and taxpayer payment of them under the government-operated plan.

  • Allow federal subsidies to flow to private insurance plans that cover abortions.

Bills Will Ration and Even Deny Care for All, Especially Older People and Those With Disabilities

Main provisions of the various health care bills would eventually lead to rationing and even denial of treatment for any citizen, especially the most vulnerable among us.

  • The government will have the authority to decide which treatments are mandated and which can be denied. Specifically targeted are those who need medical care at the end of their lives.

  • The level of treatment will be determined by preset formulas – not on a case-by-case basis.
    Inherent in these provisions is the goal, publicly stated by President Obama, of cutting costs.

  • Government-paid “end-of-life” counseling for older people will lead to pressure for them to
    forego treatment.

We have only August and early September to defeat these monstrous bills! And they must be
defeated outright because they do not exclude abortion and will lead to health care rationing.

 

THE TRUTH ABOUT HEALTH CARE REFORM

Phony “Compromise” Mandates Abortion Coverage and Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

Pro-abortion legislators concocted a phony “compromise” amendment to H.R. 3200 which was narrowly passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This amendment explicitly authorizes the public plan to cover unlimited abortions and wrote the word “abortion” directly into the bill. Any citizen who wants to take advantage of a government plan will be compelled to purchase coverage for abortion on demand. The amendment uses accounting trickery in a phony attempt to conceal that the federal government will be sending checks to abortionists from the federal Treasury account.

Senate and House committees voted down REAL right-to-life amendment that would effectively exclude abortion.

 

 

Despite False Claims, the Hyde Amendment Will NOT Protect Taxpayers From Paying For Abortions.

Some pro-abortion legislators are falsely claiming that the current Hyde Amendment, would apply to the health care plans, thus prohibiting the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for most abortions. However, the current Hyde language only applies to funds passing through the Labor/Health and Human Services Appropriations bill and would not apply to new federal subsidies created by the health care bills.

Obamacare and Assisted Suicide

Compassion and Choices, the nation’s leading pro-assisted suicide organization, is aggressively promoting the widely-discussed “end-of-life counseling” provisions found in H.R. 3200, the House version of Obamacare. Compassion and Choices claims responsibility for getting these provisions included in the bill.

If this section remains as written, it will result in two very dangerous outcomes:

  • Taxpayer funding of information on assisted suicide. Government-paid end-of-life counseling will include assisted suicide as one of the options available for residents of Oregon, Washington and Montana where assisted suicide is legal, and taxpayers will pay for it.

  • Lawsuits to expand assisted suicide information nationwide. Compassion and Choices will be able to bring an equal protection lawsuit against the federal government claiming that patients in states where assisted suicide is not legal are being deprived of information about a “benefit” provided to patients in states where it is legal.

The assisted suicide connection in H.R. 3200 is not being publicly discussed to any extent. It remains to be seen whether this troubling aspect of Obamacare will be revised to eliminate taxpayer funding of assisted suicide information and therefore lead to expansion of the deadly agenda of Compassion and Choices through lawsuits.
